This is a gorgeous piece! This large painting was among Janet's first Bernese paintings, and it still stands out as one of the best. Transparent watercolor washes of purple and greens add a flair of royalty to this lovely dog family. The mom shows the typical Bernese cross on her chest. Frame is solid, handmade walnut.

This is a very large painting!    ~    Image 20.5 x 29"  ~  Matted size ~27.25 x 35.25".
Mats are two shades of green, with a third, inner mat of royal purple.
Frame outer size is 31.25 x 39"

SOLID WALNUT FRAME
Frame is solid walnut (more than 2" wide & 1.25" thick), hand made by a central Illinois woodworker who grew the walnut on his own farm. Two of the four corners (upper left, lower right) have separated slightly, but it is not very noticeable and does not affect the integrity of the frame. The scratches that show up in the photos of the frame are exaggerated by the flash photography; they are very inconspicuous, and if nothing else they accentuate the hand-hewn nature of this frame. Janet will be happy to send you more photos - just call.

SHIPPING: actual shipping costs (I can deliver at no charge to locations in Wisconsin or Northern Illinois w/in ~ 200 mile radius of SWWisconsin.).  This Original Painting can be shipped with frame, but will be shipped without glass (glass can damage a painting during shipment).
If you do not want the frame, subtract $50. Also, layaway plans are possible; please inquire.

If you are wondering about the difference in appearance between some of these photographs...
The closeups, above, which were taken with a camera, shows the richness of my watercolor paintings the way the eye sees them. Sorry but they are a little blurry; my digital camera isn't very good.

The closeup pictures below are from scans. They accentuate the details and brush strokes more than a photograph does, and we thought you might like to see them because they show the huge amount of work that goes into a portrait painting like this. The painting looks lighter in these pictures than it really is.





Area inside matting: 14 x 18". Dog is about 2/3 life size.
This original is framed with a simple satin black aluminum frame, 20 x 24 inches O.D.  The 3" wide matting is premium dark rust suede top mat over black mat. All materials are archival.

If painting is to be shipped, glass is not included (glass can damage a painting during transit).
Layaway plans are possible; please feel free to inquire.

This interesting portrait is of a male dog who came out of a line of Berners that had produced a red and white dog that had no black at all. As an artist, I found this really interested and enjoyed painting this character. . . his stray long hairs, his big head, his Swiss Smile, and his red spectacles would be fun for any artist!
